Volunteers packing donations, in Arcsen colours

What a foundation can hand to AI agents, and what must stay with people

A foundation’s small team answers the same questions all year, with peaks at Ramadan and before every grant deadline. Donors ask for receipts, want to pause or change a monthly gift, and ask how their Zakat is spent, often on WhatsApp. Applicants email about eligibility and dates. Volunteer coordinators chase shift cover in messaging groups, and programme staff spend days pulling records together for a funder report.

Agents can take much of this work. Foundations also hold some of the most sensitive data an organization keeps, from the health, income and family details of the people they serve to children’s records. Here are four agents worth building, what each needs and what stays with people.

Four agents worth building

Salesforce’s page on AI agents for nonprofits, updated in October 2026, lists prebuilt subagents for Donor Support, Donor Engagement, Prospect Research, Participant Management and Volunteer Capacity & Coverage, which teams adjust in Agentforce Builder. Our Nonprofit Cloud guide covers the platform underneath.

  • Donor service, for donors. On the donor portal and WhatsApp, the agent resends receipts, answers campaign questions from approved content, and lets a verified donor pause, resume or change a monthly gift. Salesforce Help describes a Manage Recurring Gift Commitment action that does this for the Donor Support Agent in Experience Cloud, and labels it a pilot or beta service. On Zakat, the agent quotes your published guidance; a question of religious ruling goes to a person.
  • Grant applicants, for organizations and individuals applying. On the grantseeker portal, the agent answers eligibility questions from the published call, gives deadlines and document lists, and tells a signed-in applicant where their application stands. That page lists no prebuilt subagent for this, so build a service agent on the Grantmaking data model: Funding Opportunity for the call and its dates, Individual Application for status, Funding Award Requirement for the reports a grantee owes.
  • Volunteer coordination, for coordinators and volunteers. Salesforce describes its Volunteer Capacity and Coverage Agent as helping coordinators find unfilled shifts. Pair it with a service agent on the volunteer portal that answers shift questions and takes sign-ups and cancellations. Reminders are outbound, so they come from Volunteer Management’s automatic reminders or a flow.
  • Programme staff assist, for your own teams. In Salesforce and Slack, the agent summarizes a participant’s history before a visit, drafts notes and referrals for the case manager to check, and turns outcome and grant records into a first draft of a funder report. Employee agents are logged in as the person they are helping and follow that person’s permissions, so staff see through the agent only what they could see without it.
Agent Channel Data and systems it needs Actions it may take Where a person takes over
Donor service Donor portal, WhatsApp Donor records, gift commitments, receipts, gateway schedules, campaign content Resend receipts, answer campaign questions, change a monthly gift for a verified donor Refunds, moving restricted or Zakat gifts, complaints, major gifts, religious rulings
Grant applicants Grantseeker portal Funding opportunities, applications, award requirements, the published call Explain criteria and deadlines, list documents, report status Eligibility decisions, extensions, scores, awards, appeals, conflicts of interest
Volunteer coordination Volunteer portal; Salesforce for coordinators Shifts, roles, skills, availability, vetting status Find unfilled shifts and suitable volunteers, take sign-ups Roles with children or vulnerable adults, vetting, incidents
Programme staff assist Salesforce and Slack Participant, case and outcome records, under the user’s permissions Summarize records, draft notes, referrals and report sections for review Every decision about a beneficiary, safeguarding concerns, anything published about a person

What the agents need

Clean records and money flows. A donor agent reading duplicate records or stale gift schedules gives wrong answers with confidence. If your payment gateway runs its own recurring schedule, a pause in Nonprofit Cloud must reach the gateway through your integration layer, or the donor is charged anyway. The gift action returns a confirmation or an error, so have the agent tell the donor which. It resends receipts finance has issued and never creates one.

Identity before personal data. A donor on WhatsApp gets a one-time code before the agent shows any gift, receipt or address, and applicants and volunteers sign in to their portal on Experience Cloud. Until then, the agent answers general questions only, and never confirms whether someone is a donor, applicant or beneficiary.

Content with owners. Campaign pages and Zakat guidance come from fundraising and, where you have one, your Sharia adviser; grant calls from the programme team; the volunteer handbook from the volunteer team. Use the same approved Arabic and English text your website publishes, as our guide to nonprofit websites on SitecoreAI describes, so the agent and the site never disagree.

Guardrails: dignity, safeguarding and consent

Agents suit donors, applicants and volunteers. Beneficiaries asking about their own support need a person, because a refusal, a delay or a misread question lands on someone at a hard moment. If a beneficiary reaches an agent on a shared WhatsApp number, the agent says a colleague will reply and hands over.

Test safeguarding as a handover. The Escalation subagent passes the conversation and the details gathered to a person through an Omni-Channel flow, once per session; if the transfer fails, the agent carries on. A disclosure of harm needs a route that works regardless: the agent stops asking questions, gives the safeguarding contact and emergency number, and creates a priority case for your safeguarding lead.

Then consent. The UAE’s Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 treats data revealing health, family or religious beliefs as sensitive, requires consent that is clear and easy to withdraw, and gives people the right, with some exceptions, to object to decisions from automated processing and to ask for a human review. Free zones with their own data protection laws sit outside it. Salesforce also disables data masking through the Einstein Trust Layer for service agents, so keep beneficiary records out of reach of donor-facing agents altogether.

What stays with people

  • Safeguarding: any sign that a child or adult is at risk goes at once to the safeguarding lead, and to emergency services where life is in danger.
  • Beneficiaries: eligibility, services, referrals and ending support.
  • Grants: eligibility exceptions, scores, awards, extensions and appeals.
  • Money: refunds, moving restricted or Zakat gifts, major gifts and bequests.
  • Faith: rulings on Zakat and sadaqah beyond your published guidance.
  • Stories: anything published about a named person, which needs their consent and a staff review.

Testing before launch, and measuring after

Run the Agentforce Testing Center in a sandbox, as Salesforce advises, since tests can modify CRM data. Each batch pairs real phrases with expected responses and shows which subagent and actions the agent chose. Write the phrases from your inbox and WhatsApp history in Arabic and English, with Gulf and Egyptian phrasing and Arabic in Latin script, plus the hard cases: a grieving donor, an angry applicant, a volunteer reporting an incident, a beneficiary disclosing harm. Every safeguarding phrase must reach a person.

Salesforce’s language support page lists Arabic as Beta as of October 2026 and notes that languages in beta may have some inconsistencies when retrieving information. Review Arabic conversations daily in the pilot, and rehearse your busiest Ramadan week in the sandbox before it comes.

After launch, measure containment, the share of questions resolved without a person; handover quality, whether staff had the summary and nobody repeated their story; complaints, cancelled gifts and unsubscribes after agent conversations; and how often case managers correct the staff agent’s summaries. Review each safeguarding handover individually.

Our nonprofit work

Arcsen is a Salesforce Summit partner with 170+ consultants and 400+ certifications, working from Dubai, Riyadh, Jeddah, Doha and Cairo, with Arabic-first delivery. For IDinsight, one Salesforce platform covers donors and funders, the full grant lifecycle, and budgets for grants and programmes, on Nonprofit Cloud with Slack and Google Workspace integration and reporting dashboards. Our nonprofit clients also include the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, Qatar Foundation and Umuzi.

Where to start

  1. Start inside the organization. A programme staff or volunteer coordinator agent lets your team check every answer before anyone outside sees one.
  2. Write the safeguarding route and the handover rules with your safeguarding lead, and test them first.
  3. Clean the donor data: duplicates, gift schedules, receipts and the gateway link.
  4. Build the test set in Arabic and English from real messages.
  5. Add the grant applicant agent before your next funding round, with the call published in both languages.

Frequently asked questions

Does Salesforce offer prebuilt AI agents for nonprofits?

Yes. As of October 2026, Salesforce lists subagents for Donor Support, Donor Engagement, Prospect Research, Participant Management and Volunteer Capacity & Coverage. Check each for your org: the action that changes a recurring gift is a pilot or beta service.

Should an AI agent decide grant eligibility?

No. It can explain published criteria, deadlines and status. Decisions stay with people, and the UAE’s data protection law lets individuals object to decisions made by automated processing, with some exceptions.

Can programme staff use an agent on beneficiary records?

Yes, with care. Employee agents follow the staff member’s own permissions, so set access by role first and review every summary before it goes into a report.

Does Agentforce work in Arabic?

Salesforce lists Arabic as Beta for agents as of October 2026. Test in both languages and review Arabic conversations during the pilot.
